Get your tissues ready before you sit down to view this film.
Lion is based on a true story so all the feels start to kick in!
Set in "Ginestlay" India, "Saroo" follows his older brother Guddu everywhere. He is his brothers shadow. One day he follows Guddu to work & falls asleep, he wakes up in a panic, not knowing Guddu's whereabouts and falls asleep again aboard a train set to leave for Calcutta, a few thousand miles from his home. At 5 years old, Saroo is left to fend for himself for months, searching for his family, amongst people who speak a completely different dialect, telling people his home is "Ginestlay" the amount of homeless children in the film is heartbreaking!! It shows Saroo, sleeping with a group of homeless young children and they're woken each other's screams from men hauling them away over their shoulders. I'm afraid to even ask where they were being taken :( Saroo escapes and ends up in an orphanage. There he's adopted by a couple in Australia. His new found Australian mother is played by Nicole Kidman. They give him an amazing life, one all kids deserve. But at the age of 20 he starts to search for his biological family. He has flashbacks from his childhood and begins searching for answers. With the help of Google Earth, he starts to piece his past together. He discovers the spot where his mum worked in the mountains, the train tracks he walked with Guddu, the bridge where he was hit by a bike. The reuniting of Saroo, his mother and sister is where it feels like people are cutting onions too closely to your eyes & tissues are needed. Such a beautiful story of love, strength, resilience & sheer determination. It's definitely a film I could watch again.
